In 1944 after success with several exotic drinks, a bit of serendipity happened that would not only place Trader Vic at the forefront of cocktail mixology, but would also earn him a place in history. That day in Oakland, The Trader pulled down a bottle of 17 year old Jamaican Rum, added a squeeze of lime, a dash of rock candy syrup, a splash of orange curacao, some French Orgeat and poured the concoction over cracked ice. He handed to a friend visiting from Tahiti who immediately exclaimed, “It’s Mai Tai Roa Ae!” (Tahitian for “Out of this world- The Best”), and the first Mai Tai was born- Paradise in a Glass.

When Admiral Locnar was stranded on a remote island, he made a life changing decision to climb the mountain rising above the beach. It didn't take long for him to realize that he was surrounded by coconut and citrus trees - oranges, limes, lemons, pineapple - and a beautiful field of sugar cane.
In the years he was stranded alone, he survived by living on what the island provided, squeezing the juices, harvesting the coconut, and distilling the sugar cane to fill the pineapples after he removed the sweet center. He meditated daily by the ocean, riding the waves in his mind to keep his focus.
Thankfully he was rescued and returned to the state of his birth to share what he learned with the citizens of Ohio, and anyone who was willing to travel to Tiki Underground to hear his stories.

In 1900, three German brewers established Cervecería del Pacifico in the small Mexican port town of Mazatlán. Word of the exceptionally drinkable pilsner-style lager traveled fast. Soon, thirst for Pacifico spread from Sinaloa and up the rugged Baja coastline.
Fast forward to the early 1970s. As the story goes, a group of California surfers ventured south in their van to explore the breaks along the coast. Eventually they found themselves in Baja, where they also discovered hidden surf spots, friendly cantinas, and a beloved local beer called Pacifico.
Excited by their find, the wandering surfers loaded up a few cases of the rich golden lager into their van and returned north, becoming the first importers of Pacifico. Back in Southern California, the Baja-born cerveza gained a passionate following among surfers who journeyed south for the breaks, and returned with a beer well worth the trip.
Independent Distilling Company was established 2014 to produce small-batch handcrafted spirits that focus on local and quality ingredients in Georgia. Using a 100-gallon Copper Pot Still and a passion for spirits, founder Michael Anderson has honed his craft over the past years making traditional southern soulful spirits. The first product released was Hellbender Corn Whiskey made from locally sourced corn from Riverview Farms in Ranger, GA. Corn Whiskey is a southern tradition that has been lost by the main stream spirits producers, but Michael has revived this historic spirit.
The next product released was Independent Rum made from table grade molasses that is long fermented and lightly distilled to create a distinctive full flavor. Rum production was the first commercial spirit in the Americas and IDC’s is made in the traditional way. The Independent Barrel Aged Rum is matured in a combination of new and used barrels that imparts rich vanilla, spice and delicate honey notes.
In 2015 IDC released the first batch of Bourbon produced inside the Atlanta perimeter since Prohibition. Hellbender Bourbon is made with the same mash bill of locally sourced grains as the corn whiskey and has been aged in new charred American Oak Barrels to create a well-rounded soft flavor profile.
IDC Spirits are made by hand with the finest ingredients and a commitment to putting quality over quantity.
