Just because one does not have a computer science or engineering degree does not mean creating custom animatronics using servos is out of reach. This class will be a basic introduction on what a servo is, and how to use and control one. The discussion will include differences between a hobby servo and “regular” motors, servo hardware, servo control boards and where to purchase them, programming servos for movement/speech and of course demonstrations of a 3 axis skull. If I can figure out how to do this with a Poly Sci degree from a state school anyone can!

Kia ora! Come and learn an authentic Haka from Tavi! The Haka is a Māori war dance that shows a warrior ferocity. In Ancient Times, the Haka was performed on the field of battle in order to psyche up all of the warriors before battle. In Modern Times, it is used as a sign of respect and to celebrate life's accomplishments. You will learn everything from words, to actions, to the famous Pūkana (warrior face.) If you are attending the Luau, Tavi will have you come on stage and perform the Haka with him. Haka is not just a men's dance, women may also learn and participate! (if there is extra time, we may dive into other Pacific Cultures' dances.)

The sibling duo of Sid and Marty Krofft forever changed the landscape of Saturday morning TV in the late 1960s and early 1970s, bending the minds of American kids with trippy fare such as “H.R. Pufnstuf,” “Land of the Lost” and “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.” Their short-lived theme park, the World of Sid & Marty Krofft, occupied what later became the CNN Studios space adjacent to the Omni Atlanta, this year’s Inuhele host hotel. And the Krofft catalog continues to inspire tiki-loving artists from Shag to Atlanta’s own H.C. Warner. It all gives us a good excuse to take a look at the brothers Krofft, their creative legacy, and their connection to tiki culture.
